Influence of Weathering of Iron Sulfides Contained in Aggregates on Concrete Durability

Abstract
The oxidation of pyrite initiates a series of weathering reactions in aggregates in Maresme (Spain). The lithotypes play an important role in controlling the progress of weathering¡Gwhen hydrated Fe-sulfates characteristic of acidic environments formed in the black shales, the calcite dissolutaion prevents the formation of these harmful mineral phases in the limestones.
