Universality in BTW and Manna sandpile model

Speaker: Chuang Ya-Ting

Abstract

A classification of sandpile models into universality classes is presented in these papers. We measure an extended set of exponents of the numerical simulations data and try to determine the universality class of BTW model and Manna two-state model. Universality is under the proper conditions, different systems can exhibit the same behavior. The universality classes can be measured by quantitative indices, if they meet the same qualitative criteria, and they are the same universality class. In order to facilitate the calculation, we define the six parameters: avalanche size s, avalanche area a, radius of gyration r, perimeter of avalanche p, time t, and maximum distance of avalanche d. These parameters are the characteristic of avalanches in sandpile model. They are assumed having scaling behavior and used to analyze universality of BTW and Manna model. Finally, they conclude that the two models are not in the same universality class.
